I am an intention setter and I put those intentions out there when I meditate and with people I know and trust.
Almost 18 years ago, I decided to take up running to improve my fitness. I had never been a runner. In fact, I really didn’t like running at all. But for some reason, I wanted to become a runner… I intended to become a runner.
So I bought a pair of running shoes and shared with my family, and a few close friends, that I would be participating in the local 5K that was scheduled in 8 weeks.
I had absolutely no idea how to train for a 5k so I walked out the front door of our home and after walking for a few minutes, I started to run… well, actually jog… slowly. My goal for that day was to walk and run for one mile. Guess what? I STILL didn’t like running at all … and every single step reminded me!
However, I put my intention out there (and I registered for the 5K)… and I actually did want to be a runner. Being a runner was something that I wanted to become. At the time I wasn’t sure why because I really didn’t like the activity of running. So I stuck with the training plan that I quickly put together and committed to myself that I would finish the 5K and I could stop running after the event.
Preparing for that 5K was not fun or enjoyable – until about the 6th or 7th week when I began to feel stronger and relaxed after my runs. I’ve been running ever since! That inner voice that urged me to take up running and instilled that desire to become a runner guided me to a pursuit that has supported my physical health and mental health for almost 20 years. Maybe equally important is that I also learned how valuable it is to trust the inner voice and move forward with faith and confidence even when it is not easy. My inner voice/spirit knew the vital role that running could ultimately play in my life long before I did. I just responded to the nudge.
Saturday, July 2nd is day 182 of 2022 – We have half of the year in front of us!
Did you set intentions or goals earlier this year? Have you made the progress that you had hoped to so far? Have you exceeded what you visualized and planned? Not quite there yet? There’s the time!
I am on track with 2 of 3 of my intentions and I am grateful. One of my intentions is coming to fruition at a slower pace than I had envisioned at the beginning of the year. I remain faithful and confident that it will come into being exactly as it is supposed to and at exactly the right time…
